Health Care Compromise ?

It looks like President Obama and the democratic controlled congress is looking to softn it's position on health care. A national health program to compete against the current health marketplace is most likely going to be "set aside" for future use if the reform does not work. 2013 will be the decision date to implement a government plan if needed. In the past I have spoken to clients regarding a particular workers compensation claim affecting them and have asked if they have brought the employee back to work yet. Too many times the answer is no, they have nothing for that employee to do since said employee is not 100% and unable to perform their specific job prior to their workers compensation injury/claim. The problem with this is that too often employers miss the point that even though an employee can't perform in the position they were in prior to their injury, it behooves the employer to create some type of alternative task/job the employee can do until such time they are able to resume their normal duties. Bringing that employee back to work means that work comp benefits /payments in that particular claim are being curtailed, thereby saving the employer potentially more being paid out, while adding to their experience mod and driving their overall work comp expenses up.

Insurance industry watch out, here comes Peer To Peer insurance sharing and it could revolutionize the industry. What is this about?  Well a couple of pioneer investors are looking to create and implement an insurance company where people can share in the risks and bypass the big insurance companies. The mechanism is not published yet but it looks a lot like peer to peer funding. The difference is that the risk takers can make money if there are no claims on their risks. Insurance regulators are looking hard at the model and I am sure there will be some push back. However consumers see this as a way to shake up the experience of insurance and change the industry.
